A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 515 and Old Highway 76 sent four people to Fannin Regional Hospital Tuesday, August 18.
According to Georgia State Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Crash Report, filed by TFC C.H. Cochran of Post 27 in Blue Ridge, a Ford Escape was traveling west in the left turn lane of Highway 515 with three occupants when the driver attempted to turn left onto Old Highway 76. The driver failed to yield to an oncoming eastbound Toyota Tundra with two occupants, and the Tundra struck the Escape on the right side.
The Escape came to a rest approximately 49 feet east of the area of impact in a gore area on the south side of Highway 515, and the Tundra came to a rest approximately 92 feet southeast of the area of impact on the south shoulder of Highway 515.
Fannin County EMS responded to the scene and took two occupants from the Escape to Fannin Regional with suspected serious injuries. The Trundra’s occupants were also taken to the hospital with suspected serious injuries.
Following the crash, the driver of the Escape, Kharcee-Lane Hughes, age 16, was issued a citation for a vehicle turning left.
The driver of the Tundra, John Farabee Payne, 57, was issued two citations. The first was for driving with license suspended or revoked, and the second was for the operation of unregistered vehicle or vehicle without current license plate, revalidation decal, or county decal; storage of unlicensed vehicle; jurisdiction; display of temporary plate; revision and extension of temporary plate; disposition of fines.
