Polk commissioners battle to balance budget

Cuts were made by Polk County commissioners to bring expenses in line with revenues, but not without back-and-forth flareups. Six of the county’s nine commissioners met in Benton Tuesday, March 18, to work on the budget.

Deck collapse hurts two from Fannin EMS

Decks are supposed to be gathering places for relaxation and enjoyment, but last Friday, May 21, two proved the opposite for several individuals. The Fannin County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) was called to a residence off Old Highway 76 near Lakewood just before 10 a.m.

Challenges remembered at CBHS

Copper Basin High School graduates and their guests heard words of joy and encouragement during the Class of 2021 gradation ceremony. The sun had dipped below the mountains, leaving the CBHS football stadium in their shadow Thursday, May 20, as seniors waited to receive their diplomas.

FCHS back to traditional ceremony

Smiles were prominent among the 168 Fannin County High School Class of 2021 graduates during a traditional graduation ceremony Friday, May 21. Among a crowd of family, friends and peers, the words of hope and encouragement as well as reminiscence filled the air.
