Association letters not a scam

“It’s not a scam,” Fannin County Sheriff Dane Kirby assures residents receiving letters from the Georgia Sheriff’s Association with his name on them. Kirby said last week the association is currently conducting its annual drive seeking honorary members.

Thanks to the verbal outpouring of opposition from Blue Ridge City Councilwoman Rhonda Haight, Councilman Nathan Fitts and numerous readers of The News Observer, Georgia House Bill 739 has been changed.

Fannin County Chief Land Development Officer celebrated 40 years of service to the county Tuesday, March 9. “I can’t believe that I’ve been here 40 years,” Wood said. “It was 40 years ago today that I started working for the county in the old courthouse. I’ve worked in the old courthouse.

Fannin County Animal Control has several sweet dogs at their facility – consider adopting one today. The featured pooch this week is the Lab mix shown with Animal Control Officer J.R. Cornett. This boy is big! He has a beautiful, salt and pepper coat. Cornett calls this guy a “gentle giant.

Elizabeth Grimes was sworn into office as a Copperhill alderman Monday, March 8, prior to the city’s workshop meeting. Grimes was appointed by the council after Mayor Kathy Stewart’s recommendation to have Grimes fill the seat vacated by Horace D. West last month.
