Shane Adrian “Dewey” Derreberry, 14, took his own life Monday, March 29. Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said a 911 call came in at 8:42 p.m. The Fannin County Middle School (FCMS) eighth grader had been found by a family member at their home on Snake Nation Road.

Nick Wimberley: Army was his choice

Area native Nick Wimberley enjoys comradery and order in life, and he found two organizations that provide just that – The United States Army and The Boy Scouts of America. Wimberley voluntarily joined the Army in October of 1957, and remained in the service for three years.

Fannin students battle each other for shot at district event

For the first time ever, Fannin County students had the opportunity to compete in a county-wide 4-H Project Achievement competition.
