Freak accident claims life

A 64-year-old Morganton woman was killed Sunday in what Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan called a “freak accident.” Gale Owens of Grady Hunt Road died from injuries she received when she was run over by her own car in the Ingles Shopping Center parking lot in Blue Ridge.

Adopt A Pet

One of several perks about adopting a dog from Fannin County Animal Control is that many are already trained in some way. All dogs taken to Animal Control are housed at the facility until being reclaimed or adopted. This past week, seven dogs were taken in, and none were adopted or reclaimed.

The Humane Society of Blue Ridge cat of the week is Zefir. He is five months old and is as sweet as the Russian confection he is named after. Zefir is the only boy in a litter of seven kittens. He is quite the social butterfly with his sisters, other kittens and people.
