Words of unity, enthusiasm and winning filled the air at the Epworth Community Club Saturday when the Fannin County Republican Party held a Fall Festival that included a full slate of speakers.

A day for veterans

Three World War II veterans and Blue Ridge Assisted Living residents seized an opportunity to take flight in a restored World War II era biplane Tuesday, September 14. The flights were made possible by the non-profit organization Dream Flights as part of their Operation September Freedom.

Memories of love, friendship, thanks, and joy echoed through a pavilion at Meeks Park in Blairsville for the dedication of the Sydnie Grace Jones Memorial Intersection.
The Humane Society of Blue Ridge cat of the week is Lucille. This one-year-old beauty came to the Adoption Center as a kitten and continues to wait patiently to be adopted. Lucille has a beautiful velvety coat and stunning gold eyes. She is calm, relaxed and happy to meet new people. She gets along with other cats once she gets to know them. Blues & BBQ coming Saturday

The 10th annual Blues & BBQ Festival will be held Saturday, September 18, in downtown Blue Ridge Park, with gates opening at 11:30 a.m. The festival is hosted by the Blue Ridge Lodging Association, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Fannin County Boys and Girls club.

Morganton man killed in Labor Day accident

Luther “Luke” Stewart was killed on Labor Day when he lost control of the tractor he was driving and rolled down an embankment, Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said last week. Stewart, 77, of Builders Hill in Morganton, was driving his tractor down My Mountain Road pulling a trailer.
