Suspect charged after dog shot in front of children

Charles Ray Geyer faces four charges after he allegedly shot a dog in front of two minor children at a home off Morganton Highway last week. Geyer was taken into custody by Fannin County Deputy Sheriff Sergeant Jack Queen soon after the incident.

Beat the heat this summer with the cutest little buddy from Fannin County Animal Control. All dogs taken to Animal Control are housed at the facility until being reclaimed or adopted. This past week, eight dogs were taken in, and five dogs were reclaimed. Two dogs were adopted.

Fannin accepts $2.5 million in rescue funds

Over two million dollars of American Rescue Plan Act monies were approved by the Fannin County Board of Commissioners Tuesday, June 8, during a regular meeting. The $2,543,356 can only be used on specific projects, which include water, sewer and high-speed internet.

By Glenn Harbison glenn@thenewsobserver.com State lines don’t stop trouble from happening, and that seems to be the case with a rash of suspicious fires last week. Fannin County firefighters responded to six fires in barely more than 24 hours Wednesday and Thursday, June 2 and 3.
