Fannin facing $1.1 million budget shortfall

Preliminary budget requests  and revenue projections show members of the Fannin County Board of Commissioners are looking at a budget shortfall of over $1.l million.

Commissioners met Wednesday, October 9, to hear 2020 budget requests from county department heads and elected officials.

According to Chairman Stan Helton, the budget requests for 2020 currently total $20,433,581 in General Fund Expenses, which is a 7 percent increase from the approved 2019 general fund budget of $19,010,743. He said the total requested budget is currently $29,061,021.

According to Finance Director Robin Gazaway, the county is anticipated to bring in $27,904,369 in revenue for 2020.

Those numbers create the revenue shortage of $1,156,652.

Helton said the board will look over the requests further and work with the departments in order to create the county’s proposed budget. Gazaway said she will need the proposed numbers by November 6 in order to properly advertise the proposed budget and public hearing dates to the public for the board’s final setting of a budget in December.
