New trainings quell Fannin fire issues

Fannin County Fire Department Training Officer Dale Stiles has implemented new interactive trainings for employees at the fire department that will help to alleviate training hour issues faced in the past.

The cute, Bassett Hound mix shown with Fannin County Animal Control officer Pat Patterson is this week’s featured pooch of the week! This boy has the cutest, stubby legs and a short, sandy, white coat. He is very sweet and laid back and would be a great addition to any family or individual.

Fruits, vegetables introduced at WFES under grant program

West Fannin Elementary School students and staff have the opportunity to try new fruits and vegetables all year long thanks to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant.

COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 increases over last two weeks

Fannin County has seen an increase of 96 cases of COVID-19 over the last two weeks as of Monday, September 21. This brings the county’s total up to 598 positive cases since the pandemic began.  Twelve of those people who had contracted the virus have died, and 44 have been hospitalized.

Fall Arts in the Park canceled

The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (BRMAA) has decided to call off the annual Fall Arts in the Park festival that was scheduled for October 10 and 11. The cancellation is a result of the ongoing public health concerns related to COVID-19.

Grand juries to reconvene in Appalachian Circuit

While all types of cases are currently being heard throughout the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, Fannin County will begin convening grand juries again November 9. “Our communities have been hit hard by the global pandemic,” Appalachian Judicial Circuit Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda Weaver said.

Blue Ridge moves toward keeping mowing contract

The City of Blue Ridge opted to stay in their contract with 4-V Ranch after renegotiating Monday, September 14. The new deal includes services for eight months out of the year, and will only require the city to pay for those months of service instead of paying for the entire 12 months.

Suspect charged after fight in parking lot

A Knoxville man learned that if his idea of having fun was taking a swing at his female companion, then the Hometown IGA parking lot in McCaysville was not the place to be. McCaysville Police Chief Mike Earley said officers received a call Saturday afternoon about a verbal altercation.
