Deborah Williams told Polk commissioners that  the county’s library board is in a desperate financial situation. Williams spoke to the commissioners during their regular meeting Thursday, November 19, at the county courthouse in Benton.

Nightly rental request to be heard

A request to obtain a Special Land Use Permit to allow nightly rentals at 529 E. 2nd Street, Blue Ridge, will be heard by the Blue Ridge Planning Commission Tuesday, December 1. The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

News Observer named Best of CNI

The News Observer has been named the Best of Community Newspapers, Inc. (CNI) and also honored for having the Best Overall Design. The awards were announced recently when CNI’s owners and other company leaders met with publishers from all the company’s 27 newspapers for their annual conference.

Townhome plan clears first hurdle

The Blue Ridge Planning Commission recommended that the rezoning request of 14.15 acres along Appalachian Highway be approved with a number of  requirements during a meeting Tuesday, November 17.

Polk parade December 12

The Sounds of Christmas, Polk County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas parade, is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, at 1 p.m. in Benton.
