Two sentenced in McKinney murder

Two men charged in connection with the murder of Justin Wayne McKinney and shooting of Anna Franklin have entered guilty pleas and been sentenced. Kevin Jack Chamaty, 22, and Michael Chase Havard, 22, will both serve prison sentences followed by lengthy probation, Fannin County court records say.

COVID-19 led to changes

When COVID-19 and regulations to go with it ensued, Blue Ridge Community Theater (BRCT) abandoned their idea of a Black Box theatre performance. In fact, they had just began converting its old rehearsal hall into a Black Box theatre when COVID-19 hit.

The chunky, Hound mix shown with Fannin County Animal Control officer Pat Patterson is this week’s featured pooch of the week! This guy doesn’t seem to have missed any meals, but he sure is cute. He has a red coat with white patches and cocoa bean colored eyes. He is a good and well behaved boy.

Fannin reports increase in COVID-19 cases

Fannin County has seen an increase of 107 cases of COVID-19 over the last two weeks as of Monday, October 5. This brings the county’s total up to 713 positive cases since the pandemic began. Twenty-five of those people who had contracted the virus have died, and 59 have been hospitalized.

Scholars at the University of North Georgia’s (UNG) Blue Ridge Campus have been offered three new scholarships to apply for. “These scholarships mean so much to students and their families in this community,” Sandy Ott, director of UNG’s Blue Ridge Campus said.

Movie will benefit humane society

Head on out to the Swan Drive-In Thursday, October 15, at 7:30 p.m. for a special showing to benefit the Humane Society of Blue Ridge. Tickets cost $40 per carload and will include the showing of A Dog’s Journey, rated PG.
