Carpenter graduates Harvard, earns UGA law scholarship

Fannin County High School Class of 2016 Valedictorian Colton Carpenter has been awarded the Alston Distinguished Law Fellowship at The University of Georgia (UGA)’s School of Law.

Carpenter received a full scholarship to Harvard University and chose to study Government and Economics at the undergraduate level. He graduated in an online ceremony at his home with family and friends in Fannin County this past May.

Carpenter has chosen to pursue a law degree, and he applied to multiple law schools and received acceptance letters to several before choosing to study at UGA’s School of Law where he was awarded the Alston Distinguished Law Fellowship.

The Alston Distinguished Law Fellowship is reserved for outstanding students who demonstrate extraordinary academic achievement and exceptional professional promise.

The fellowship provides for full tuition as well as a stipend after both the first and second year of law school to be used in consultation with the Dean of the School of Law towards professional development.

Potential uses of this stipend include a summer work opportunity with the government, a study abroad experience or performing research for a professor.

Distinguished Law Fellows will also be invited to join the Dean of the School of Law at one or more annual professional development events that offer an exceptional opportunity to interact and build relationships with leading legal and judicial figures.

Carpenter will graduate as a member of the Class of 2023 and plans to enter into a career of public service.
