Fannin firefighters must retest

Seven Fannin County paramedic and EMT firefighters will have to retest with the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council (GFSTC) in order to receive the proper certificate due to an error, which occurred when certificate paperwork was submitted by the county’s fire department.

Samantha Trantham was elected chairman and  Greg Brooks vice-chairman of the Polk County Commission last Thursday, September 17, when commissioners held their monthly meeting in Benton.

Two charged with drug trafficking

Shanacy Hope Burnette remained in the Fannin County Detention Center last Friday, held without bond on charges of trafficking methamphetamine and possession of drug related objects.
The Humane Society of Blue Ridge cat of the week is Lew. He is a four-month-old tuxedo cat who is all dressed up and ready to go! Lew is very friendly, playful and gets along well with other cats. The handsome, sable mix shown with Fannin County Animal Control officer J.R. Cornett is this week’s featured pooch of the week! This boy is very handsome with a short, white and blonde sable coat. He is very strong and would make someone a great yard dog.

Blue Ridge adopts ordinance changes

The Hotel/Motel Excise Tax Ordinance Amendment was read for the second time and adopted, along with the Special Event Ordinance and Street Performance Ordinance, during the City of Blue Ridge’s Tuesday, September 8, council meeting.

$200 donation helps put finishing touches on broken Huey window

The greenhouse window of the Huey helicopter has been replaced after it was found busted out late last month. The Huey is located in the Fannin County Veterans Memorial Park and is a helicopter that was used in Vietnam.
