Collis charged with assaults at Life Care

Neil Kevin Collis, 50, of 550 Austin Street, Blue Ridge, is free under bonds totaling $150,000 after his arrest Friday, March 11, by Polk County authorities.

Collis is charged with one felony count each of rape and sexual battery and two misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure.

The charges result from incidents that allegedly occurred at Life Care Center of Copper Basin in Ducktown.

Captain Keith Barker of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a call was received February 17 from the staff at the facility reporting that one of the residents had been sexually assaulted.

Barker said after the victim was interviewed, it was determined the assault was committed by Collis who was employed in maintenance at the facility.

Collis is charged with one county of sexual battery in connection with this first victim.

This finding resulted in further investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Barker said it was discovered that another resident and a staff member of Life Care had been victimized by Collis.

Collis was charged with rape and indecent exposure in connection with the second victim, and indecent exposure in connection with the third victim, Barker said. The alleged incidents all occurred on the same day.

Collis was arrested at the Polk County Jail shortly before 8 p.m. and released under bond just over two hours later. Bond was set at $37,500 on each of the four charges, according to Polk County inmate records.

Collis was indicted on the charges by a Polk County Grand Jury and was arrested on a capias resulting from the indictment, Barker said.
