Raffensperger talks voting ideas at Kiwanis meet

Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger stopped at the Circle J Family Steakhouse in Blue Ridge, Monday, March 21, to speak to members of the Kiwanis Club of Blue Ridge.

While at the club’s regular meeting, Raffensperger stated that Georgia is “a great place to raise a family and start a business.” As a business owner himself, Raffensperger said he “wants to make sure that there are only American citizens voting in elections.”

Raffensperger recently asked the General Assembly to introduce a Constitutional Amendment stating only American citizens can vote in any state or national election. “If you read the Constitution, it states that all American citizens can vote in elections, it doesn’t say what non-citizens can do.” Raffensperger said that the resolution is “one of the very important things” that he is doing.

He also claimed that he did a detailed analysis of all voters in Georgia and that none of the voters in the previous presidential election were non-citizens; however, there were approximately 1,600 non-citizens registered to vote in Georgia. His resolution for this issue is to do “deep dive one-on-one interviews” to ensure that these registered voters cannot vote if they are not citizens.

Raffensperger oversees voting, tracking of annual corporation filings, grants professional licenses as well as oversees the state’s securities’ market.

As Secretary of State, Raffensperer was the height of national attention when the aftermath of the November 2020 U.S. presidential election occurred. During this time, Donald Trump had lost the State of Georgia to President Joe Biden.

Raffensperger stated, “One of the things that we did was House Bill 316. We got verifiable paper ballots, so for the very first time, you could audit an election and do a re-count of an election. That really came in handy; though, we didn’t think we’d need it, after the Fall 2020 presidential election.”
