Fannin school board gets look at new complex

Progress is underway for the Fannin County High School Health and Wellness Center. While groundbreaking is still in a more distant future, school system Chief Operations Officer Darren Danner presented a conceptual perspective of what the future health and athletics complex may look like.

Special to The News Observer The Game’s Afoot is a hilarious tale of mystery and mayhem! The Main Stage production opens Thursday, September 14, and continues through October 1 at the Blue Ridge Community Theater. Performances are every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 32, with the help of the North Georgia Honor Guard, recognized the retirement of Larry Dyer during a special ceremony last week. Dyer has been scouting with the Boy Scouts since 1954, and after a 33-year long stint with the Armed Forces, he joined Troop 32 in 2015.

One by one, parents of students in the Copper Basin schools asked James Jones, Director of Polk County schools, to explain problems they have seen with the schools. The questions came during a town hall meeting held Wednesday, September 6, in the gym at Copper Basin Elementary.

Basin alumni group formed, Hamby first to be honored

“The Copper Basin Alumni Association was founded for the purpose of supporting the student-athletes and coaches across all sports at Copper Basin High School,” Executive Board President Dylan Boggs said.
The Fannin County Fire Department has received the new updated air packs and accompanying equipment that are part of $1.7 million approved by the county Board of Commissioners. Funding comes through a USDA grant that does not require any matching funds and American Rescue Plan Act monies.

The Fannin County Fire Department has received  the first shipment of over $1.7 million worth of new equipment. The Fannin County Board of Commissioners approved this equipment upgrade in June.

Paul Lawrence Elliott Jr., remained held without bond in the Fannin County Jail last week following his arrest on two felony counts of Child Molestation. Elliott Jr., 23, of 760 Synacia Drive, Mineral Bluff, was taken into custody August 24 at 10:15 p.m.
