The next big step in solving the drainage problem in downtown Blue Ridge will be in full swing August 5 when part of Mountain Street will be closed.
Public Works Director Joe Patterson said Mountain Street between East Main and West Main streets is scheduled to be closed August 5 through September 11.
The closing will be 24 hours a day, seven days a week and affect all through traffic.
A map on A2 shows the exact location.
The closing is necessary for a culvert to be built.
Patterson warns everyone to use extreme caution in the area as the trench for the culvert could range as deep as 17 feet.
The closing will shut down the often used connection between East and West First streets, likely creating heavier traffic in the downtown area, especially on the Depot Street connection between East and West Main.
While the contractor will move as quickly as possible to re-open the street, Patterson encourages everyone to be patient as the work progresses.
