Body found in front of church

The identity of a body found in front of Wilscot Baptist Church last week has not been determined, but foul play is not suspected in connection with the death. Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene around 11 a.m.

Rodney Patterson is being credited for keeping a bad situation from getting worse when he helped McCaysville Police Officer Peter Kusek take a suspect into custody last Monday night, August 31.

The handsome, three-legged wonder shown with Fannin County Animal Control officer J.R. Cornett, is this week’s featured pooch of the week! This guy is a Feist mix with a short, white coat and patches of blonde. Despite only having three legs, this guy gets around great and is very active.

The Humane Society of Blue Ridge has a new van thanks to a $47,000 grant from DJ&T Foundation. The vehicle will be used to transport animals to other locations across the country, which they’ve been unable to do for several years.

Polk County Commissioners agreed to go into an agreement with American Internet Services to provide wireless internet across the courthouse in exchange for allowing the company to place a dish on top of the building during a meeting Thursday, August 20.
