Body found in front of church

The identity of a body found in front of Wilscot Baptist Church last week has not been determined, but foul play is not suspected in connection with the death.

Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene around 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, when a man bush hogging in front of the church found the body.

The remains, believed to be male, were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for identification. That process is expected to take about a week to a week-and-a-half.

Callihan said, based on the decomposition, the victim had been dead about two weeks.

Wilscot Baptist Church is located just over five miles south of Morganton on Highway 60.
