Molestation suspect charged

Another accused child molester has been put in jail following a Fannin County Sheriff’s Office investigation. Edward Flandio Ritchie, 42, of 2811 Mineral Bluff Highway, Mineral Bluff, was arrested April 1 by Investigations Captain Justin Turner.

The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office is again participating in a national effort to keep prescription pills out of the hands of children and others for whom they were not intended. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Take Back initiative is planned for Saturday, April 24.

Infrastructure at root of flooding, diesel spill

Severe flash flooding seen in recent weeks and The City of Blue Ridge's failure to address an infrastructure problem five years ago are being blamed for a diesel spill downtown. Approximately 25 gallons were spilled, which was discovered March 26.

Shane Adrian “Dewey” Derreberry, 14, took his own life Monday, March 29. Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said a 911 call came in at 8:42 p.m. The Fannin County Middle School (FCMS) eighth grader had been found by a family member at their home on Snake Nation Road.
