Intern to take DDA inventory

The City of Blue Ridge’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) met Monday, July 6. Chairman Cesar Martinez told of an intern from the University of North Georgia that has been recruited to work with the DDA.

Basin classes start August 10

Copper Basin schools will move forward with “full, in-person instruction” for the 2020-21 school year beginning August 10. “Our plan is to have full, in-person instruction every day for the upcoming school year,” Dr. James Jones, Director of Schools for Polk County, said.

Fannin schools start August 7

Students will have the option to return to Fannin County schools Friday, August 7, for in-person instruction, and masks will be optional for all students and personnel.

Fannin County courts temporarily closed

Courts within the Fannin County Courthouse will be closed until further notice. Chief Superior Court Judge of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, Brenda Weaver, has made the decision "in an abundance of caution" after multiple employees have exhibited symptoms of COVID-19.

Sparky, named by Fannin County Animal Control volunteers, is this week’s featured dog of the week yet again! Sparky is a young mix and is full of life. He’s got a soft white coat with black patches and spots of brown. He plays well with other dogs and is ready for a forever home.
