A previous motion regarding the City of Blue Ridge’s purchasing policy, during a June 9 council meeting, brought controversy at their workshop Tuesday, July 7. “I think Jeff and Robbie and I had one thing that we thought it was, and Mike had a different intention,” Mayor Donna Whitener said.

Early voting underway in Fannin County election

Early voting for the General Primary run-off, slated for Tuesday, August 11, began July 20 and will continue through August 7. Voters who choose to early vote can do so in the Elections Office on the third floor of the Fannin County Courthouse Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pippenger’s plan solves Polk budget crunch

Polk County Commissioner John Pippenger assured his fellow commissioners they would not all agree or like all parts of a budget proposal he had prepared, but that the plan would reach their needed “cut” number and balance the 2020-21 budget.

Fannin High principal headed to Massachusetts

Fannin County High School Principal Erik Cioffi has submitted his resignation to the Fannin County School System effective August 28 and will begin his new career as an assistant superintendent in Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
Jim and Marci Wilcox were among the performers during Pickin’ in the Park at Ron Henry Horseshoe Bend Park Thursday, July 9. Pickin’ returned to the park after being absent for almost ten months, and now continues back on schedule starting at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
