By Bobbi Pippin Several children gathered for Fannin County Public  Library’s “Backyard Birds” on Saturday, March 9th. The library had loads of fun activities for kids of all ages to do while learning about birds.

By Bobbi Pippin Fannin County Middle School students’ hard work finally paid off on Thursday, March 7, when they were able to release 70 Rainbow Trout into Weavers Creek. This has been a year long project for the 6th grade as well as some of the 7th grade students.

18 kilos of meth seized

An investigation that was started in Fannin County approximately 18 months ago resulted in four arrests, the seizure of 18 kilos of methamphetamine with a street value of  $5,760,001, and other property worth over $200,000.
The House of Representatives Chamber in the state Capitol was filled last Thursday morning when a portrait honoring the late Speaker of the House and 7th District Representative David Ralston was unveiled. The portrait now hangs at the entrance to the Chamber to honor Ralston who served for 13 years as the 73rd Speaker of the House.

13-year-old charged with school threat

A 13-year-old male was in custody and charged Friday morning less than 12 hours after the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a threat of violence against Fannin County Middle School (FCMS).

Races set for May 21 voting

Candidates have signed up and early voting will begin in April in Georgia’s General Primary and Nonpartisan elections. Fannin County Election Supervisor Mary Ann Conner released the names of candidates in local races Friday, March 8, shortly after qualifying ended at noon.

Frank Wood appointed district attorney by Governor Kemp

Frank Wood was appointed district attorney for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit by Governor Brian Kemp Friday, March 1, and was sworn into office the same day. Wood was in court in Gilmer County Friday morning when he received a phone call from the governor telling him of the appointment.
