Over three ounces of meth seized in Fannin County arrest
Shanacy Hope Burnette remained in the Fannin County Detention Center last Friday, held without bond on charges of trafficking methamphetamine and possession of drug related objects.
Burnette, 43, of 743 Pleasant Hill Road, Blairsville, was arrested Monday, September 14, by agents of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) and Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
The methamphetamine recovered from Burnette weighed 92.7 grams (3.1 ounces) and had an approximate street value of $2,000, according to a statement from Trent Hillsman of the ARDEO.
Hillsman said Burnette had been the target of a joint drug investigation by the ARDEO, Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit.
A traffic stop performed on Burnette’s vehicle resulted in her September 14 arrest.
Dustin Hamby, assistant agent in charge of the ARDEO, said that stop took place at approximately 7 p.m. at the intersection of Old Highway 76 and Rebel Circle by Fannin County sheriff’s deputies and was the result of a vehicle/traffic violation and the ongoing investigation.
The subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of the methamphetamine and drug related objects.
Hillsman said the investigation is still active and on-going.
