Meal plan told for Basin students

Copper Basin Schools will serve meals each day for students who are attending school either in-person or remotely. For the first two weeks, meals will only be available for those enrolled in in-person schooling.

Polk County tax rate approved

Polk County commissioners adopted the tax rate approved by the budget committee, set the county budget, gave their okay for the school system to lease four new buses and postponed several actions so committees could first consider decisions.

Industrial board gets power over Trantham’s objection

Over the objections of two of their own, Polk County commission members have given the county’s new Industrial Development Board (IDB) $91,523.47 from the Industrial Park Fund, $10,864 in tax money and title to all the county owned land in the Polk County and Copper Basin Industrial parks.

Driver caution urged: school zone lights up

Students head back to school in Polk County Monday, August 10, putting buses and young drivers back on the roads. With the start of school comes a warning to be cautious, and also a reminder that those violating the law will be punished.

Chinese seeds may pose threat

The Georgia Department of Agriculture has been notified of Georgia residents receiving random packages containing seeds that appear to have come from China. Packages have been noted as being mislabeled as “jewelry” and may have Chinese writing on them.

While the recipient preferred to remain unnamed, league members Jim Brumbelow, Dale Greene, Charlie Mills, Mike Nunnally and Thom Potito completed the project, which is shown above.

Marines build ramp

Local Marines with Blue Ridge Detachment 1438 of the Marine Corps League recently completed a wheelchair ramp for a retired Army veteran in the community.  “We are Marines and we take care of our own, and it is only right that we take care of our veteran brothers,” Commandant Jim Brumbelow said.

DFCS working through remote access

Fannin County’s Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) office is currently operating remotely, but is still available to help when needed. This is in response to Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s call to limit in-person contact across the state.
