Family Connection sees 40% increase

Fannin County Family Connection saw a 40% increase in client visits in the month of March and continues to show a percentage increase from previous years each month. “We are grateful for the charity that has been shared with us over the spring,” Executive Director Sherry Morris said.

The male Feist mix, shown with Fannin County Animal Control officer Pat Patterson, is this week’s featured pooch of the week! This boy is an orange color and has patches of white. He’s a cute, small feller. This guy is very calm and seems to do well around other dogs.

Feed Fannin meeting needs despite challenges

Despite the cancellation of Feed Fannin’s largest fundraiser of the year, Bowls of Hope, along with other challenges, the group has been able to provide food to everyone who has visited Fannin County Family Connection’s food pantry.

Revenue raises concern in Polk meeting

Members of the Polk County commission’s budget committee approved  the county’s tax rate, but not without a brief exchange over revenue. Meeting in Benton Thursday, July 30, the tax rate was set at $2.5120, the same as the previous year.

Meal plan told for Basin students

Copper Basin Schools will serve meals each day for students who are attending school either in-person or remotely. For the first two weeks, meals will only be available for those enrolled in in-person schooling.

Polk County tax rate approved

Polk County commissioners adopted the tax rate approved by the budget committee, set the county budget, gave their okay for the school system to lease four new buses and postponed several actions so committees could first consider decisions.

Industrial board gets power over Trantham’s objection

Over the objections of two of their own, Polk County commission members have given the county’s new Industrial Development Board (IDB) $91,523.47 from the Industrial Park Fund, $10,864 in tax money and title to all the county owned land in the Polk County and Copper Basin Industrial parks.

Driver caution urged: school zone lights up

Students head back to school in Polk County Monday, August 10, putting buses and young drivers back on the roads. With the start of school comes a warning to be cautious, and also a reminder that those violating the law will be punished.
