Tifton Milward “Tip” Davenport was born August 25, 1935, in the New Hope Road community of Fannin County, Georgia. He was the ninth of 10 children born to the Late Jay Zetler Davenport and Myrtle Roberson Davenport.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Wise Davenport, and was predeceased by two children, Mary Patricia Davenport and Larry Tifton Davenport.

He is survived by daughter-in-law Laura Davenport and two grand daughters, Mary Corinne Davenport and Megan Camille Davenport; brother, Joe Davenport; and sister-in--law Louise Wise Hannah. Siblings and their spouses who predeceased him are Virginia and Henry Hester, Regina and Sam Panter, Cara and France Tilson, John and Hallie Davenport, Paul Herman and Lois Davenport, Bill and Jenny Davenport, Bobby Davenport, infant sister, and Barbara, widow of Joe. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tip graduated from Fannin County High School in 1954 and immediately went to work for the Atlanta Gas Light Company in Marietta. He spent his whole career there and spent the rest of his life happily reminiscing about the people and his years there. He had a fantastic memory and always had a story to tell.

He belonged to Hollydale United Methodist Church and was active there in earlier years. One of the missions of local churches was to provide food for the MUST Homeless Shelter. Tip enjoyed organizing and delivering many meals from his church to the shelter.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. David Wilson officiating. Interment followed in the Hemptown Baptist Church Cemetery.
