The Riverwalk Run Series invites runners, walkers, families, and visitors to celebrate summer in a uniquely festive way during the WPPL FM 103.9 Walk the Line 5K Saturday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Part of America's only two-state 5K series, the event features a scenic riverside course that crosses between McCaysville, GAand Copperhill, TN, giving participants the opportunity to run in two states during a single race.
Now entering its seventh season, the Riverwalk Run Series has become one of the region's signature running events. Walk the Line 5K serves as the summer installment of the series, which also includes the Trout Trot 5K in the spring and Bigfoot Boogie 5K in the fall.
Originally created to complement Independence Day festivities in the twin cities, Walk the Line 5K has evolved into a popular Christmas in July celebration. With Santa scheduled to make an appearance, participants are encouraged to embrace the holiday spirit. A limited number of Santa hats will be distributed, while supplies last.
"This event has become one of the most fun and unique race experiences in the Southeast," said Race Director Matthew Cole. “There’s no better place to celebrate Christmas in July, than along our beautiful riverside at the state line."
The 2026 Riverwalk Run Series also commemorates America's 250th Birthday. To celebrate, each race medal is part of a three-piece interlocking collection. Participants who complete all three events receive the Riverwalk Run Series Challenge Prize and collect a unique commemorative medal set.
The Riverwalk Run Series continues to attract visitors from across the region while supporting the nonprofit McCaysville Business Association. Race weekends generate tourism, overnight stays, restaurant visits, shopping activity, and increased visibility for local businesses throughout the Copper Basin.
