Ruth Hawkins

Ruth Hawkins, age 80, of Murphy, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Sonshine Manor in Blairsville, Georgia.

Ruth was born August 31, 1941, in Dial, to the late Robert Cole Long and Sienna Farmer Long. She was of Baptist faith, and Ruth loved going to church and spending time with her church family. She loved shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She attended New Liberty Baptist Church for several years. Ruth is also preceded in death by her siblings, Bunyon Long, Frank Long, John Long, Betty Cochran, Grace Painter, Willie Farmer, Jane Ledford, Carrie Conley and Myrtle Long.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Hawkins, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Betty Hawkins, of Murphy; daughter and son-in-law, Roxie and Billy Long, of Morganton; sister, Ruby Boone, of McDonough, Georgia; sister-in-law, Donna Truelove, of Buford, Georgia; grandchildren, Chase (Lety) Hawkins, David (Jessica) Long, Kimberly (Drew) Deaver and Casey Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Hudson Long, Gunner Deaver, Luke Hawkins, Paisley Deaver and Hannah Hawkins;  and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 10, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Wallace Parks officiating. Music was provided by Linda Ware, Ivy Bice and Diana Odom.

Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Murphy. Pallbearers were David Long, Chase Hawkins, Casey Hawkins, Danny Henson, Larry Farmer and Raymond Long.
