Mr. Rodney Lane Welch, age 55, of McCaysville passed away Monday, August 22, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
Rodney was born September 29, 1966, in Copper Basin to the late Lenard George Welch Jr., and Anna Louise Suits Welch.
He was a 1985 graduate of Fannin County High School and very much enjoyed the visits with his classmates. When you were asked to describe Rodney, it would be difficult to not mention his love for the outdoors and the mountain man lifestyle. He was an avid fisherman that could be found at Coopers Creek with his fly rod or on the backside of any given mountain with his muzzleloader. He enjoyed the history of days gone by and Western History. He was a regular attendee of the Alabama and Kentucky Muzzleloader Show along with the Annual Muzzleloader Shoot in Friendship, Illinois .
When Rodney wasn’t out in the woods or at work, you could find him at home watching westerns or something about history. Taking a ride with him would eventually have you sitting in the parking lot of a pawn shop or a flea market.
He was an active member New Canaan Baptist Church where he served as a song leader. He was a caring son, a beloved brother, and a friend to many.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeffrey Welch.
He is survived by his brother, Eric Welch and his wife Julie; a niece, Tori Welch and her fiance John Richards; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members and friends.
His life was remembered Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Akins-Cobb in Blue Ridge with the Rev. Jonathan Milsaps and the Rev. William Gravitt officiating.
He was laid to rest at Mobile Baptist Church Cemetery directly following the service with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: David Franklin, Ryan Deaver, Drew Deaver, Keith Huffman, Robbie Mathis, and David Goss. Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Huffman, Hoyt Payne, Steve Huffman, and Reid Mathis.
