Body

The Rev. James Robert Galloway, age 88, of Blue Ridge, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

The Rev. Galloway was born in Blue Ridge November 22, 1933, to the late Fred Morris and Annie Patterson Galloway.

He had worked for the Tennessee Copper Company as a Track Inspector among many other jobs that he had in his lifetime. He was a longtime minister in Fannin County having pastored an array of churches including Barnes Chapel Baptist Church, New Antioch Baptist Church, and most recently Star Creek Baptist Church.

James enlisted in the United States Air Force in July of 1953 then went on to serve more than a year in Korea. Being the proud Veteran and Patriot that he was, he volunteered his time with the North Georgia Honor Guard helping provide Military Honors to veterans across the Tri-State area. He also served as the Chaplain for many years of the American Legion Post 248 in Blue Ridge.

He was a man that was always piddling with something. He loved mowing his yard and working in his garden. He enjoyed western shows and visiting with folks. You could always expect good conversation when James was around.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Mae Parks Galloway and a brother, Charles Galloway.

He is survived by his children, Joy (Larry) Allen of Albany, Georgia, Robin (Van) Rhodes of Huntersville, North Carolina, Clark (Sandy) Galloway of Dallas, Georgia, and Fred Galloway of Mineral Bluff; grandchildren, Mark (Carol) Allen of Dallas, Georgia; Matthew (Amanda) Allen of  Dallas, Georgia; John (Megan) Allen of  Dallas, Georgia; Damon (Maddie) Galloway of Temple, Georgia; Katelyn (Austin) Galloway of Temple, Georgia; Hunter (Kristin) Galloway of Dallas, Georgia; and Steven (Kayla) Rhodes of Troy, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Michelle Allen, Ryder Allen, Ace Allen, Grayson Gardner, and Riley Rhodes; and sisters, Geneva Colwell of Charleston, South Carolina and Frances Mitchell of Kennesaw, Georgia.

Funeral services were Friday, July 8, 2022, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Akins-Cobb of Blue Ridge with  the Rev. Adam Flemming officiating. Music was provided by the New Antioch Baptist Church Choir.
