Charles Ray Odom, age 81, of Blue Ridge, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022.

He was born September 9, 1940, in Morganton. Ray attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired as a Sergeant First Class from the United States Army after serving 25 years and eight months. Ray served in the Iraq War and Desert Storm. He owned and operated a trucking company and worked at Tennessee Chemical Company and at Blue Ridge Supply.

Ray enjoyed his grandchildren, golfing and hanging out at the Village Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Odom and Mae Jane Dean Odom; wife, Rachel A. Henson; and brother, Don Odom.

Survivors are children, Michael Odom (Diana), of Mineral Bluff, Paula Holt (Raymond), of Ellijay, Georgia, and Nick Coleman, of Blue Ridge; grandchildren, Brittany Odom Darsey (Brad), of McCaysville, Haley Odom, of Mineral Bluff, and Martin Coleman, of Talking Rock, Georgia; and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at 1 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Randy Hooper officiating. Music was by the DixieAires. Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Interment followed in the New Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rev. Mark Huff, Charlie Couch, Tommy Henson, Barry Dean, Robert Odom and Danny McFarland. Honorary pallbearers were Hugh McClure, Larry Green and Lenny Green.
