Margaret Marie Ellis Hughes, age 70, of Mineral Bluff, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, peacefully in her home with her immediate family by her side after an extended illness.
She was born October 10, 1951, in Pulaski, Virginia.
Marie was preceded in death by her father, James Leonard “Hen” Ellis; mother, Edna Duvall Ellis; sister, Jane Ellis; infant brother, Danny Ellis and infant sister, Linda Ellis.
She was raised in Isabella, Tennessee. Marie graduated from Copper Basin High School in 1969 and Tri-County Community College with an Associate Degree in Computer Technology. She was employed with First National Bank of Polk County. Marie was a member of Midway Baptist Church in McCaysville.
Marie was unconditionally loving and kind to everyone in her life and to everyone that she met. If you knew her, you were loved by her and you were blessed to feel loved by her. When you met her you instantly knew that she had a rare - never judgmental - peaceful soul with a heart full of so much love and grace that you instantly desired to comprehend how it could be obtained.
She loved her family, friends and she deeply adored her grandsons beyond measure. She is loved, cherished and will always be held close in our hearts and memories. Her love will continue to be our guide and strength.
Survivors are her husband of fifty-two years, Joe Hughes, of Mineral Bluff; daughter, Susan (Todd) Rollins, of Copperhill; daughter, Karen (Rusty) Boggs, of Copperhill; grandsons, Dylan Boggs, Dalton Tankersley (Fiancée’ Emily Gray) and Joe Boggs; sister, Fayrene (Bob) Mathis, of Epworth,; sister, Shirley Jean Higdon, of Dahlonega, Georgia; brother, Jessie Lynn Ellis, of Ducktown; aunt, Blanche Ledford, of Hiawassee, Georgia; several nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; family friend, June McCarter; many friends and her little dog, Fred.
Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday July 13, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Funerals & Cremations of Copperhill Chapel with the Reverend Don Padgett and the Reverend Jerry Rice officiating. Music was by Braylee Deal and David Anderson. Interment followed in the Pantertown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dylan Boggs, Dalton Tankersley, Joe Boggs, John Higdon, Austin Ellis and Joey Buchanan.
Honorary Pallbearers were Jonathan Curtis, Jeremy Curtis, Seth Russell, Anthony Hughes, William Towery, Shannon Acreman and Bobby Nicholson.
The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
