Eleon Levern Hughes, age 71, of Morganton passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, at his home.

Levern was born in Fannin County March 2, 1951, to the late Clories Edward Hughes and Madeline Fisher Hughes.

He worked for 30 years in construction for Langford Construction. Levern was of the Christian faith as a member of Hemptown Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joyce Carmel Hughes, Gwendolyn Johnson, Linda Butts, Anita Long, Clyda Sue White, and Charlene Sluder; and sister-in-law, Linda Sluder Hughes.

Levern is survived by his loving wife, Judy Hughes of the home; son, Charles (Jennifer) Hughes of Cleveland, Tennessee; daughters, Lorie (Chris) Galloway of Morganton, and Carrie Hughes of Morganton; brother, Edwin Hughes of Blue Ridge; sisters, Shirley Dills of Mineral Bluff, and Claudette Hughes of Morganton; grandchildren, Amber Hughes, Ashley Hughes, Whitney (Brandon) Patterson, Jacob Galloway, Brett Galloway, and Dawson Galloway; and great-grandchild, Winter McClanahan.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel at Akins-Cobb with the Rev. Randy Hooper and the Rev. Darvin Couch officiating.

Music was provided by Dawn Kendall and Shawn Bradley.

Interment followed in the Chastain Memorial Park with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Charlie Couch, Charles Hughes, Chris Galloway, Brett Galloway, Dawson Galloway, and Jacob Galloway.

Honorary pallbearers were Larry Fisher, Edwin Hughes, Brandon Patterson, Jim Hughes, Charles E. Hughes, and Doug Hughes.
