John C. Mitchell of Blue Ridge, Georgia, passed Monday morning, September 5, surrounded by family in the intensive care unit in Chattanooga at Erlanger Hospital.

He leaves behind a son, Jeff Mitchell of Rapid City, South Dakota; grandchildren, Katie Lindsey of Rome, Georgia; Taylor Mitchell of Rapid City, South Dakota; Tyler Mitchell of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Christian Lunsford of Rapid City, South Dakota.

John proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was widowed by Judy A. Mitchell. John was Judy’s main caretaker. He was an engineer by trade. He owned his own company, Sign Recognition, Inc. He retired and served his community by helping animals in need in the north Georgia area. He worked with Second Chance Animal Sanctuary and Eleventh Hour in New Jersey to help find homes for animals.

There will be a service at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, September 17, for John at the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Fannin County, 527 Forge Mill Road, Morganton, Georgia, 30560.
