James Walter Cole, age 75 of Mineral Bluff, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.

James was born May 29, 1947, in Blue Ridge to the late Joseph Burton Cole and Ester Nama Couch Cole.

He was a member of Sunrise Tabernacle and worked as a logger and handyman for many years.

Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his first wife, Flonnie Cole; son, Chris Cole; and sisters, Lorene Rhodes and Lois White.

He is survived by his current wife, Betty Jean Cole; son, Rex Cole of Copperhill; daughters-in-law, Cynthia Brown of Blue Ridge and Rhonda Cole of Blairsville; brothers, Elbie (Charlotte) Cole of Blue Ridge and Melvin (Linda) Cole of Blue Ridge; sisters, Ruth Ann (Danny) Franklin of Blue Ridge and Jo Ann Arp of Morganton; grandchildren, Flonnie Cole, Tiffany Quinn, Warren Cole, and P.J. Cole; and great grandchildren, Wesley Quinn, Brady Cole, Christa Quinn, and Ariel Quinn.

A graveside service was held Monday, January 9, 2023, at 3 p.m. at the Sunrise Tabernacle Church Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Ware officiating. Music was provided by Warren Cole and Josie Bradley.

Pallbearers were Warren Cole, Ronald Rhodes, Perry Ledford, P.J. Cole, Justin Cole, and Tiffany Quinn. Honorary pallbearers included Wesley Cole, Brady Cole, and Junior Bell.
