Jack Paul Mathis, age 96, of Epworth, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022, in Jasper, Georgia.

He was born February 14, 1926, in Fannin County, to the late C.A. Mathis and Millie Ritchie Mathis. Jack was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Levi Strauss where he worked for many years in the cutting room.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Magdalene Milsaps Mathis; son, Larry Mathis; siblings, James Mathis, Willard Mathis, Clarence Mathis, Emory Mathis, Charlie Mathis, Joe Mathis, Annabelle Collis and MarthaNeil Hollifield.

Jack is survived by his children, Steve (Pamela) Mathis and Diane Mathis; grandchildren, Rhonda (Matthew) Kunkel and Jody (Jim) Robison; great-grandsons, Dylan (Asia) Kunkel and Cory Kunkel; step great-grandchildren; Jim Robison III and Burns Robison; brother, Junior Mathis; and sister, Norma Lee Queen.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 4, 2022, at 2 p.m. from Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. Claude Mathis, the Rev. G.W. Mathis and the Rev. Al Patterson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Military honors were presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

Pallbearers were Bryan Martin, Bob Mathis, Raymond Queen, Dylan Kunkel, Matthew Kunkel, and Cory Kunkel. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Goss, Winford Morris, Donnie Pelfrey, and Charlie Thomas.
