Mrs. Hazel Deane Chastain passed away February 8, 2022, at Blue Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care.

Mrs. Chastain was born in Fort Payne, Alabama. She was a very active member at the First Baptist Church, of Ellijay, Georgia, where she especially enjoyed singing in the choir. Previously, she had served as a pianist and organist at Temple Baptist Church. She enjoyed gospel music and delighted in playing the piano. Along with her first husband, John Edsel Garrison, she owned and operated Garrison’s Grocery in Epworth from the late 50’s until the late 60’s. After the death of Mr. Garrison in 1968, she went on to marry Jefferson Gordon Chastain, who passed away in 2014. She was a very tender-hearted lady and will be greatly missed by those closest to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Emma Wisner Dupree and was the last remaining child of their 10 children. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Alice.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eddy and Pat Garrison, of Blue Ridge; a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members who she cared deeply for.

Her life was remembered at a graveside service Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery beginning at 3 p.m. with Dr. Roger Beck officiating. Music was by Rev. Scott Eaton.
