Gene Warren Ensley, age 83, of Blue Ridge, passed away August 14, 2022.

He was born April 21, 1939, in Epworth to the late Warren H. and Edna Cabe Ensley.

He graduated from West Fannin High School in 1958. Gene was a Master Mason, and after years working in the steel mills of Indiana, he joined the Army where he was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and on deployment to Miami, Florida, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He later worked for Georgia Power and went on to become an Ironworker Foreman at Tennessee Chemical Company. Gene retired from Chart Industries, Inc., in 2003 and continued to serve his community with the Fannin County School System and delivered meals for the Meals-on-Wheels Program.

Gene was an avid lover of nature and spent many hours on his back porch (his “office”) appreciating his hummingbirds, deer, crow, and the occasional turkey or bear. Gene was a passionate and generous supporter of St. Jude’s Children Hospital and a member of Damascus Baptist Church.

Gene is survived by his wife, Katy Ensley of Blue Ridge; his sons, Chad Warren Ensley (Karem) of Washington, D.C.; Brian Allen (Lynn) of Calhoun, Georgia; Christopher Allen of Cleveland, Tennessee; his grandchildren Brittany Allen, Kori Boring, Aidan Ensley, Kaila Ensley, Luca Ensley; his niece Vicki (Lyle) Pennington of Jackson, Georgia; and his aunt, Rachael Barnes of Epworth.

Funeral services for Mr. Ensley were held Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 2 p.m., from the Chapel at Akins-Cobb with  the Rev. Billy Ray Queen officiating.

Music was provided by Lily Whitener. Interment followed the service at Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Benny Ensley, James Millholland, Davey Ensley, Eric Whitener, Lyle Penngington and Josh Boring.
