Donald “Don” Panter, age 89, passed away Friday morning, May 20, 2022, at his home in Morganton.

Don was born December 21, 1932, in Morganton, to the late Arthur Panter and Eula Estella Colbert Panter. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Germany. He was one of the oldest living members of Hemptown Baptist Church. He had retired from City Service Company in Copperhill, where he had worked as an electrician. He enjoyed watching his Atlanta Braves, fishing and tending to his garden and his yard.

Don is survived by daughters, Sandra Sisson, Shelbie (David) Powell and Jennifer (Skip) Larson; sister, Robbie Luedke; son-in-law, Steve Ferguson; brother-in-law, Bobby (Lisa) Kendall; grandchildren, Jeremy Ferguson, Donald (Megan) Powell, Joseph Sisson and Ryan Larson; great-grandchildren, Adam Ferguson, Elizabeth Powell and William Powell; nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Eva Nell Kendall Panter, and daughter, Sherry Ferguson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 3 p.m. from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Gerald Mathis and the Rev. David Whitener officiated. Music was by Brian Huffman and Alisa Stanley.

Burial followed in the Hemptown Cemetery with Military Honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations may be made to your favorite charity or a charity that helps children.

The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Joseph Sisson, Donald Powell, William Powell, Jeremy Ferguson, Adam Ferguson, Cole Kendall and Nathan Davenport. In addition, Elizabeth Powell and Ryan Larson served as honorary pallbearers.
