Alton Donald Busey, age 85, passed away in the late hours Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Fannin Regional Hospital, in Blue Ridge.

Don, as he was known by friends and family, was born January 11, 1937, in east Atlanta to the late William “King” and Mattie Busey, of Jonesboro, Georgia.

Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Busey; daughter, Rebecca Ann Dotson; and his brother, William M. Busey.  He is survived by his children, Donna Tyree, of Rex, Georgia, Wanda Simmons, of Kiln, Mississippi, Ginger (John) Walker, of Mineral Bluff, Cathy (Mike) Finnell, of Mineola, Texas, Sherry (Mike) Johnson, of Kingston, Tennessee; and a long list of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Don was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and an accomplished pilot. While he made a career as a private business owner, he enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and interests. Don was an equine enthusiast, bird watcher, woodworker and sports fan, “GO DAWGS!” He also found great pleasure in gardening, putting puzzles together and spending time with his family and friends.

The service celebrating the life Don lived was Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street in Newnan, Georgia, with Pastor Bobby Pierce and Grady Harper officiating. The family received friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Don was laid to rest next to his wife at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro where military honors will be rendered.
