Mrs. Dixie Mae Davenport, age 92, of Blue Ridge, passed away January 16, 2020, at her residence. Born in Fannin County, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Ella Sluder Allen. She worked for a number of years for the Fannin County Board of Education as a Lunch Room Attendant. Mrs. Davenport loved being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed working in a garden, tending her flowers and camping. Mrs. Davenport was also a long time member of the Helping Hand Fellowship Church.
Preceding her death was her husband, Edwin Davenport; three brothers, Bill Allen, Don Allen and Andy Allen; and one sister, Myrt Walz.
Survivors include her children, Larry Edwin and Carol Davenport of Epworth, Jim and Althea Davenport of Blue Ridge and Marsha and Junior Ensley of McCaysville; sisters, Shirley and Danny Walker of Blue Ridge, Ruth and Ron Keith of McCaysville and Lorene Hall (John-deceased) of Branford, Florida; brothers, Dan and Patty Allen of McCaysville and Kenneth Allen of Ellijay, Georgia; grandchildren, Melissa (David) Carlile, D.J. (Tanya) Davenport, Stephen (Tracey) Davenport, Sherry (Darryl) Walden, Shane Davenport, Roger (Melinda) Ensley and Robert (Kelly) Ensley; great-grandchildren, Dylan (Victoria) Carlile, Morgan Carlile, Hunter (Promise) Davenport, Hannah Davenport, Dawson Davenport, Jacob Ensley, Ryan (Shana) Ensley, Haley Ensley (Fiance- Dillion Cantrell), Lacey Walden, Lucas Walden, Madison Davenport and Caitlin Davenport; great- great-grandchild, Adaline Davenport; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 19, 2020, from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denny Hawkins and the Rev. Richard Argo officiating. Music was provided by the Rev. Denny Hawkins, Sherry and Lacey Walden and Shirley Walker.
Interment followed in the Helping Hand Fellowship Church Cemetery with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers: Roger Ensley, Robert Ensley, Shane Davenport, Stephen Davenport, D.J. Davenport, Darryl Walden and David Carlile. The following great-grandchildren were selected to serve as honorary pallbearers: Ryan Ensley, Jacob Ensley, Hunter Davenport, Dawson Davenport, Dylan Carlile and Lucas Walden.
