Debra “Diane” Thomas, age 70, of Morganton, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Union General Hospital.

Diane was born in Forest Park, Georgia, December 13, 1951, to the late Willis Ruben Thomas and Edna Botts. She retired after working many years for the Gilmer County Commissioner’s Office. Diane was a member of The Connection Church, formerly known as, Corinth Baptist Church, of Fayetteville, Georgia. She enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family. Diane is also preceded in death by her siblings, Joyce Speakes, Sue Kent and David Thomas; and niece, Gaye Sessions.

She is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Terry Ledford, of Morganton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Haskell and Peggy Thomas, of McDonough, Georgia, and Willie and Martha Thomas, of Morganton; sister-in-law, Linda Thomas, of Griffin, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Jeff Thomas, Greg Thomas, David Thomas, Kelly Coffey, Demetrius Collier, Dinean Stevens, Sally Kent, Dana Welch, Tracy Earley and April Diane Israel; as well as, 19 great-nieces and nephews; and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Grady Ray officiating. The family’s wishes were to have the service hour at 1 p.m., but in Diane fashion, they felt it would be best to start it a little later than originally planned. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Thomas, David Thomas, Chris Thomas, Jordan Israel, Jason Earley and Ned Welch.
