Daniel G. “Dan” Underwood, age 65, of Farner, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019, at the Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, following a sudden illness. He was born February 13, 1954, in Copperhill. Dan was a contractor and was a member of Farner Presbyterian Church. Dan served in the United States Navy. He was retired, enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, wood working and panning for gold.
Dan was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Ann Underwood; stepson, Matthew Adams; father, Cecil Underwood; brother, Eddie Underwood; paternal grandparents, Pearl and Kate Underwood; maternal grandparents, Roy and Eunice Dean; and great-niece, Leira Key.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Underwood of Farner; daughter, Chelsea Underwood of Blairsville; grandson, Colt Carr of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Carole Baker (Paul) of Ooltewah; nieces, Karen Underwood Harris, Melisa Key and Wendy Fujita; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lauryn Harris, Layne Harris, Mika Edwards, Ben Key and Mason Key; and special sister, Setsuko and husband, Kingo Fujita also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at from the Farner Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Matthew Atteberry officiating. Dan lay in state Wednesday, November 20, 2019, from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2 p.m. at the Farner Presbyterian Church. Congregational music was led by Linda Ledford and Janice Reid.
Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Dean, Ronnie Dean, Dennis Dean, David Taylor and Norris Burger. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill was in charge of the arrangements.
