Fannin County Middle School (FCMS) sixth-grader Dylan Hart will represent the county at the virtual Regional 1 Spelling Bee, after he spelled his way to victory in the Fannin County School System’s Spelling Bee Tuesday, January 25.

This year marks 53 years since the first time Fannin County native and U.S. Army veteran Jerry Williams took his first shot at a human being. “I do believe I could put six or seven Vietnamese out there and pick him out of a line up, just for that facial expression,” he said.

Authorities are counting on an autopsy to tell them the identity and cause of death of a body found in Fannin County Friday night, January 21. Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said the remains were found by a hiker who had become lost.

Fannin County Animal Control dogs have a dream of one day being loved and sheltered in a forever home. This past week, six dog was taken, two were adopted, and three were reclaimed. Homeward Bound Pet Rescue took one dog along with Lab Friends Rescue.

A young Florida girl’s dream of playing in the snow became reality Friday, January 14, thanks to the Fannin County and Copper Basin community’s support. Being from Lakeland, Florida, Aubrey Hutson had never seen snow except for on YouTube or the TV.
