Schools receive food grant

Martha Williams, director of Nutrition & Wellness for the Fannin County School System, has announced that the system is one of eight districts in Georgia to be awarded the Georgia Organics Farm to School Innovation Mini Grant.
The Polk County Chamber of Commerce hosted a multi-plaque presentation welcoming four Copper Basin area businesses to the organization Thursday, February 16. Here, Burra Burra on the River representatives Katie Hawkins and Brittany Beavers show off the plaque presented by the Chamber. The Fannin County Young Farmers Association held its annual Awards Banquet Friday, February 10, at the Fannin County School System Agriculture Facility.
This is part of the crowd who gathered to celebrate Arbor Day last Thursday outside The Art Center on West Main Street in Blue Ridge. A Serviceberry tree was planted by members of the FFA from both Fannin County High School and Middle School and 4-H club members with help from representatives of the Georgia Forestry Commission.

The lawn at The Art Center in Blue Ridge was crowded Thursday, February 16, for the Fannin County Arbor Day Ceremony. Billed as a community celebration, the event was held as a time to celebrate nature and the importance of trees.

Western Welding Academy visits Fannin High School

The Western Welding Academy visited Fannin County High School (FCHS) as a part of their Blue Collar Tour to offer students the opportunity to learn about trades. The welding academy is currently traveling to 30 different high schools in 30 days during a 60 day time period.

Two pounds, $92,000 in meth seized

James Howard Reynolds of Fannin County and Jacob Greg Davis of Gilmer  County both face drug trafficking and other charges, while over two pounds, $92,000 worth, of methamphetamine is off the streets as the result of an investigation that began with a tip to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office.
