12 cases of COVID-19 reported in Fannin

The Georgia Department of Health has reported 12 cases of COVID-19 and no virus related deaths in Fannin County as of Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. According to the department, there are 13,621 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide.
This female Lab mix, who volunteers have named Goldie, was picked up on Clay Circle in Morganton March 3. She will remain at Animal Control until reclaimed or adopted. Goldie is very well mannered and would make a great companion. She is shown being held by Fannin County Animal Control Officer Pat Patterson. The featured dog of the week is the female Lab Mix, Goldie. She has a short, honey brown coat with striking golden eyes and is mid-sized. Goldie is a fun, loving sweetie and is ready for a new home. She would be best with a family that will allow her to be outside often.

Forest service shuts down trailheads

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests have temporarily shut down trailhead facilities, other access points to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and nearby trails. Trailheads include Springer Mountain and Woody Gap.

The Georgia Department of Health (DPH) reported nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 and no virus related deaths in Fannin County as of Monday, April 6 at noon. DPH has reported 7,314 confirmed cases, 1,332 hospitalizations and 229 deaths statewide.

Battle rages over holding election on schedule

Governor Brian Kemp says he does not have the power to change Georgia’s May 19 election date. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says neither does he. Speaker of the House David Ralston and the 11 Republican members of Georgia’s Congressional delegation disagree and want it changed.
