15th case of COVID-19 reported in Fannin County

The Georgia Department of Health has reported 15 cases of COVID-19 and no virus related deaths in Fannin County as of Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. According to the department, there are 17,432 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide.

The Georgia Department of Health has reported 14 cases of COVID-19 and no virus related deaths in Fannin County as of Wednesday, April 15 at noon. According to the department, there are 14,987 confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide.

Sarah Rigdon was named Assistant Superintendent of Achievement and Governance for the Fannin County School System during a Fannin County Board of Education meeting Thursday, April 9. “I first worked with Mrs. Rigdon as a para-pro in 1993,” Superintendent Dr. Michael Gwatney said.

Census response remains important

The United State Census Bureau has mailed paper questionnaires to around 64 million households across the nation in an effort to ensure more responses to the 2020 Census.  According to the bureau, 46.2% of the nation’s households have already responded to the 2020 Census.

Animal Control Officers and volunteers alike hope folks will be willing to open their hearts and homes to the dogs in their facility. In the past week, officers brought in one dog. Owners reclaimed two dogs and one was taken by Homeward Bound. Another dog was adopoted.

Need never stops: next blood drive April 19

“The need never stops for blood,” Blood Assurance Marketing Director Caitlin Stanley said. People should still come out to donate as preventative measures are in place, and the shelf-life of blood is limited, she said.

Fannin County High School junior McCay Turner was recently selected to the 2020 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) in Science (Chemistry).
Only a small part of the road remained in the 1200 block of Damascus Road in Epworth Monday, April 13 after a log got into a pipe and washed out a portion of the road. Fannin County Public Works Director Zack Ratcliff said his department would receive the replacement pipe the following Thursday and be able to begin repair work the following Monday.
