Editorial cartoons are designed to carry a huge message in just a few words. That’s what the one above does.
It is a strong reflection of Veterans Day, that annual time of year when all Americans should stop and say thank you.
Local plans for the annual observance include two parades, memorial service, breakfast and programs at the area schools. Veterans are also routinely recognized in churches.
As we take this time to say thank you, the importance of the freedoms veterans have won and kept for some 250 years should never be taken for granted. Especially now, as even politicians seem intent on ignoring the Constitution, the Bill or Rights, and almost every principle developed to build the foundation of this country.
Veterans are and have always been America’s backbone. Especially when everything else is failing, we turn to our armed forces to pick up the pieces. Freedom rests on the shoulders of these men and women.
To those who have served, and to those who are serving, thank you.
