EDITORIAL: Fannin, Basin offer plenty of excitement

Are you looking for something exciting, entertaining or simply different to do during the upcoming holiday season?

Then look no further than Blue Ridge and the cities of the Copper Basin. Residents and visitors alike will have ample opportunities to enjoy the spirit of the season.

This issue of The News Observer, complete with the holiday issue of the newspaper’s Welcome magazine, is packed with the plans of communities, churches and organizations.

For instance the popular “Light Up Blue Ridge” is scheduled for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It’s complete with the arrival of Santa Claus and the lighting of the downtown Christmas Tree.

McCaysville is promising no one will want to miss “Light Up McCaysville” this year. Complete with a new Christmas tree sitting on the banks of the Toccoa River, festivities are planned for Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

Plans are being made for Christmas in Ducktown Saturday, December 7, which is also the big day of the Copperhill Kiwanis Club’s annual Christmas parade through the twin cities of Copperhill and McCaysville.

But one of the first holiday events offers a chance to enjoy the true spirit of the season while giving to others. The Good Samaritans’ Community Thanksgiving Open Table will be held Thanksgiving Day at Fannin County High School. Volunteers are always welcome.

And don’t forget to contribute to the Fannin Regional Hospital Auxiliary’s annual Love Light project.

These are just a few of the many opportunities to be a part of the holidays in Fannin County and the Copper Basin.

Take part in all of them. Those in charge have put in a great deal of work to make them special.

And keep a close eye on The News Observer. That’s where you’ll find the latest information.

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
